*** Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this call *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2nd EvAAL Competition (Evaluating AAL Systems through Competitive Benchmarking) http://evaal.aaloa.org CALL FOR IDEAS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ An initiative supported by the AALOA community (http://www.aaloa.org) and organised by the universAAL project (http://www.universAAL.org) We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting suggestions and ideas for the organization of the 2nd EvAAL Competition. EvAAL is a newborn initiative aimed at evaluating Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems. Because the state of the art does not allow evaluating a full AAL system, EvAAL adopts a step-by-step approach, and in its first editions it will focus on specific core functionalities of AAL. You can find more details in http://evaal.aaloa.org. The 1st EvAAL Competition focused on indoor localization and tracking, and it was held at the CIAMI Living Lab in Valencia, on the 25-29 July, 2011. The results of the competition were presented at the 1st EvAAL workshop that was held in conjunction with the AAL Forum on the 26-28 September 2011 in Lecce, Italy. Information about the structure of EvAAL and about the technical aspects of the1st competition can be found in http://evaal.aaloa.org. We plan to organize the EvAAL-2012 with two tracks: one on indoor localization and tracking, and another one on a topic to be defined. For this reason we invite all interested researchers and practitioners that have an interest in AAL to contribute to EvAAL by proposing ideas and topics for the next competition and, possibly, to participate in the organization of EvAAL. Contributions to this call for ideas can be simple suggestions about the improvement of the existing organization and the competition on indoor localization and tracking, or could be proposals for new tracks on new subjects not already covered by EvAAL. There is no predefined format for the submission of suggestions, however such contributions should be limited to one page (about 1000 characters) and sent by e-mail to the organizers at the address info@evaal.aaloa.org. Proposals for new tracks are not limited in space. They should indicate precisely the topic of the track, and should include the following sections: * the motivation for the track (which should state the relevance of the this track for EvAAL and for AAL in general); * a roadmap or a preliminary implementation plan of the track; * a draft of evaluation criteria; * a C.V. of the proposers; * a contact person for the proposal (including e-mail and phone number). The proposals should be submitted as pdf document by email to: info@evaal.aaloa.org. Proposals for new tracks will be evaluated by the EvAAL Steering board based on relevance to AAL and EvAAL, feasibility of the proposals, and compatibility of the proposals with the logistic constraints. Because of capacity problems, we will most probably be able to add only one new track to the program of EvAAL 2012, in addition to the existing track on indoor localization and tracking. Proposers of an accepted new track will be requested to serve as program committee chairs of the track, to form the program committee of the track, and to manage the technical issues of the competition they are proposing. The proposers of accepted tracks will be assisted by the EvAAL steering board members to prepare the call for competition and to set up the new track. EvAAL will also provide the new track with logistic support. Please check the EvAAL web site (http://evaal.aaloa.org) for more information about the competition. For specific questions please read the EvAAL FAQ (http://evaal.aaloa.org/current-competition/faq) or contact us by e-mail.
