[evaal contest] Question about competition

Dear All,

We have the question regarding off-line, smartphone based track. Is it possible you to share ground true locations for previous contests editions? Say for years 2015-2018?

This would greatly let us challenge our solution against corresponding winners.

Thank you in advance for considering this subject

Best Regards

Dear Yuqin,

I am sorry for delayed reply.

In addition to Antonino's reply, please refer the answers for your question.

> I have question about track2 video-based competition. As mentioned in track2, “no depth” is mean that we cannot use RGB-D camera?

In case of RGB-D camera in smartphone, it will be allowed to Track 1 or Track 2 depending on the portion of your technical approach.

If your system focuses on image processing based localization, then it can be allowed to Track 2.

Please refer the following sentences which was excerpted from the Call for Competition Track 2.

"In Track 2, competing system should be engineered or implemented in a form of localization system that exploits vision sensors (i.e. Monocular or Stereo cameras without Depth sensor). Please note that laser based technologies (i.e. Lidar) are excluded."

>Another question is that does track1's phone sensor include a camera? If the answer is yes, could you tell me which track(track 1 or track 2) is better as for a project like ours which using a separate camera?

If you use separate RGB-D camera, and your system uses "Depth sensor" data, then it is not allowed to Track 2.

If you need further clarification, then please contact me any time(sylee at etri.re.kr).

Best regards,

Dear Yuqin,

Into the track1 smartphone based it is allowed to use all the sensors

built-in a commercial smartphone. If your system uses a physically

separated camera, the system cannot be admitted for participating in

track1. A second important requirement is that the actor that will be

equipped with your system can be held the smartphone as he/she wants

without restrictions (and I suppose that this requirement is a problem

for a camera-based system).

For question about track2, the track chairs are reading this email in cc.

If both track1 and track2 are not suitable for your system, we can

admit the system to participate as off-track.

Best regards,

Antonino
